Why a Blog?

I have thoughts in my head 24/7 that override my normal thoughts, distract me, and sometimes keep me awake at night. Am I crazy? Probably, but not because of the thoughts. They aren’t voices telling me Big Brother is looking through my windows. Just random thoughts about things I wonder about …. like how I need to write in my “oh f*ck, I’m dead” book so my kids will be able to find important stuff. And how I can train my dogs to let me Dremel their toenails so I don’t have to spend that money every month. (Dachshund’s nails grow freakishly fast.) I needed an outlet and here it is. Funny things always happen to me, so I can write them here and amuse someone who reads it in the middle of the night. I am writing my second book, “Hope Smiles,” and I have no business writing here too, but sometimes your brain needs a reset. Let’s see what materializes!

I am a dental hygienist that has been practicing for 42 years and licensed in four states. I have worked as a dental assistant, adjunct dental hygiene instructor, dental assisting instructor, and currently am a periodontal hygienist in a premier periodontal and implant center in Florida. I run study clubs for both dentists and dental hygienists which I started in my office which is PACE approved and held in our beautiful education center. As I transition out of clinical hygiene, I have returned to my first love - writing. I have published articles in RDH magazine, DENTE, The AGD's Florida Focus, RDH Village, and Hygienist Hub. After becoming the recipient of the American Dental Hygienist's Association in 2021, I was inspired to write my first published book, "Irene Newman, The World's First Dental Hygienist." This work of historical fiction follows the life of Irene and Dr. Alfred Fones as they singlehandedly create the profession of dental hygiene, start the first school for dental hygienists in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and start the ADHA. Since having a dental "brand" was successful, I continue to write books with a dental theme, most recently "Hope Smiles," available soon on Amazon.
